Science & Testing

Don't trust us. Trust the lab.

Most mushroom coffee asks you to take its word. We'd rather show our work — every lot, every result, from real fruiting-body extract to the number on your Certificate of Analysis.

What we test, every single lot

Before any batch is sold, it's tested by an independent, accredited lab. Nothing ships without a passing Certificate of Analysis (COA) on file.

TestWhat it confirms
Beta-glucan (Megazyme)Real, active mushroom content — not grain starch
IdentityThe species on the label is the species in the tin
Heavy metalsLead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury within safe limits (mushrooms bioaccumulate — this matters)
MicrobialsYeast, mold, and pathogen screening

Made in a cGMP-compliant, allergen-controlled facility (21 CFR Part 111), with certified-organic ingredients.

Fruiting body vs. "mycelium on grain"

This is the fault line in the whole category — and where most brands quietly cut cost.

Fruiting body (what we use)

The actual mushroom. Beta-glucans concentrate here. Testable, and we publish the number.

Mycelium on grain

Mushroom roots grown on rice or oats, then milled with the grain. Cheap, and often mostly starch — with far less beta-glucan than the label implies.

The tell is on the panel: a product that reports "total polysaccharides" instead of beta-glucans may be counting grain starch. We report beta-glucans, measured by the Megazyme assay, and we test alpha-glucan (starch) too — so there's nowhere to hide.

How to read a Certificate of Analysis

  1. Find the beta-glucan %. This is the active number. Higher and disclosed is good; "total polysaccharides" alone is a yellow flag.
  2. Check the alpha-glucan (starch) %. High starch on a "mushroom extract" suggests grain filler.
  3. Confirm the lot number matches your tin. A COA is only meaningful for the batch you actually have.
  4. Scan heavy metals & microbials. They should be tested and within limits.

Look up your lot

Enter the lot number from the bottom of your tin to open its Certificate of Analysis.

Pre-launch: lot lookup activates when the first tested lots ship. Wire this to your COA store/URL map.

Testing FAQ

What is beta-glucan and why does it matter?

Beta-glucans are the active compounds concentrated in a mushroom's fruiting body. Measuring beta-glucan — not "total polysaccharides" — is the honest way to confirm you're getting real mushroom, not grain starch.

Who runs the tests?

Independent, accredited third-party labs — not us. Every released lot has a passing COA on file, and you can read it yourself.

Are these medical claims?

No. We describe testing and ingredient content, and we make only structure/function statements (like "supports focus") — no medical or disease claims of any kind.
